Bob and his dog Kelsey have a very special relationship. I mean, how many people would stay by your side in a frozen snow bank for over 19 hours? Well Kelsey did just that after Bob fell down and fractured his neck on New Years Eve after he went outside to gather firewood.
Bob’s closest neighbor was over a quarter mile away, and Kelsey was the only friend he had. She laid on him, somehow managing to keep him warm. She pawed at him and kept him awake and alert throughout the night. And it was Kelsey’s bark that alerted his neighbors, eventually leading to his rescue.
Bob was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery to relieve spinal cord compression. He was just transported from the hospital to a rehabilitation center, where he is now walking and rebuilding his strength.
And Kelsey has gotten a heroes welcome.
Jenny, Bob’s daughter, says “She’s the sweetest dog and we all say how smart she is.”
Bob met Kelsey when she was 6 months old. She was going to be used for breeding purposes, but when Bob met Kelsey he knew she was special. She jumped up on his lap and the two have been inseperable ever since. Bob never imagined his good deed of providing the dog a forever home would repay him 100 times over. But it did. Kelsey repayed him by saving his life.
Aren’t dogs magnificent creatures? The love and loyalty that they show continues to astound me.
